The Engagement Ring FAQ
Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most significant journeys you’ll embark on. At Noble House Jewelry, we know that with all the sparkle comes a lot of questions. Whether you’re dreaming of a custom masterpiece or searching for the perfect ready-to-wear solitaire, we’re here to bring clarity to the process.
Here are the answers to the questions we hear most often in our Overland Park showroom.
1. What are the "4 Cs," and which is most important?
The 4 Cs stand for Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat weight. While all are important, we often recommend prioritizing Cut. A well-cut diamond reflects light better, giving you that iconic "fire" and sparkle—it can even make a smaller carat stone look larger than a poorly cut diamond of a higher weight.
2. Natural vs. Lab-Grown: What’s the difference?
Physically, chemically, and optically, they are identical.
-
Natural Diamonds are forged by the earth over billions of years and carry a sense of rarity and history.
-
Lab-Grown Diamonds offer the same brilliance and durability but at a significantly lower price point, allowing you to often get a much larger stone for your budget.
3. How much should I actually spend?
The old "three months' salary" rule is a thing of the past. At Noble House, we believe the right budget is the one that feels comfortable for your financial journey. Our goal is to find you the most stunning, high-quality ring within your specific range—never to pressure you beyond it.
4. Can I design my own ring?
Absolutely. We specialize in bespoke design. If you have a specific vision—or even just a handful of Pinterest photos—our on-site master jewelers can help you select the stone and create a custom setting from scratch. Because we do the work in-house, custom doesn't have to mean "expensive."
5. Which metal should I choose?
This depends on your lifestyle and style preference:
-
14k or 18k Gold: Timeless and available in Yellow, White, or Rose. Yellow gold is currently seeing a major resurgence.
-
Platinum: The most durable and hypoallergenic option. It’s naturally white and holds stones very securely, though it is heavier and carries a premium.
Trending Engagement Styles
If you’re looking for inspiration, here are a few directions our couples are currently loving:
The Modern Solitaire The 14k Yellow Gold Round Diamond Solitaire is a masterclass in "less is more." It allows the center stone to take center stage with a clean, polished band that never goes out of style.
The Hidden Detail For those who want a secret sparkle, the Hidden Halo Diamond Engagement Ring features a delicate wrap of diamonds visible only from the side profile—a perfect touch for the person who loves "little details."
The Architectural Oval the Oval Diamond Engagement Ring continues to be a top choice for its ability to elongate the finger while providing a large, brilliant surface area that catches light from every angle.
Every love story is unique, and your ring should be too. Whether you're just starting to browse or you're ready to sit down with a designer, we're here to help.
